There are hormonal reasons for it to happen and there are three that are usually the most frequent.
1- Stress: one of the functions of estrogen is to help regulate cortisol (stress hormone) When estrogen decreases stress skyrockets, which slows down the digestion process, decreases movement in the colon and causes constipation.
2- Dry and hard stools: when progesterone levels decrease, the stool stays longer in the colon. And if they spend a lot of time, they become dry, hard and difficult to evacuate.
3- Loss of muscle tone: decreased estrogen can cause loss of muscle tone in the pelvic floor, making it difficult to completely evacuate stool. The problem gets worse when a lot of effort is made to defecate, because the pelvic floor muscles are further affected.

The most frequent are intestinal pains, heaviness and swelling.
But also, because of the sustained effort in each stool, hemorrhoids, pains and fissures can appear.
In some more severe cases, it can lead to intestinal occlusion, a gastrointestinal condition in which digested material is prevented from being removed normally through the intestine. It should be treated quickly with a doctor.
